My Life

Hello friends and family!

I wanted to share some more photos of daily life. A big part of my life in Indonesia has been hanging out around the house with the girls I teach. Here are some pictures of our fun and random times!

To start, below are some pictures from preparing some food in the house...I just love the kitchen, all open and breezy, and delicious food! This kitchen may look simple, but it has repeatedly made me feel a longing to have my own kitchen in Indonesia! Which reminds me of a time when I met an older scottish fellow with maxine in Jakarta, and he warned us to be careful, as he came to Indonesia on a one month contract...16 years ago! Its a hard place to leave...

Spice rack!
Below, another snake scare near the house! oi vey! This time a green tree snake...also very poisonous...That is Maiya killing it! It frightened me because I was not on the look out for snakes that looked like this! Thankfully, I have had no close encounters myself.

The cutest realization was that Jade, my little indonesian sister, also has a pink bear named Bear Bear (for those of you who know me well, are already acquainted with my Bear Bear, but for those of you not...he is my teddy bear that I have had since I was a baby! He was also once pink and proud...now he is not pink, but very wise.)
Also for those who know my Bear Bear, you know that I should take a lesson from Jade in what she is doing here;) aka, wash my bear!

This is Maiya! She does the washing and cleaning in the house and has been so sweet to me! From here I have learned some Indonesian, and can practice it as she does not speak English.
Some of my daily pleasures come in the form of delicious tropical fruit! Here is passionfruit - called Mariska here - its sooooooooooooooo tasty!

After one morning class, we all went and played soccer and hung around together, in search of bananas. Playing soccer was so fun, and really felt like i was at camp, with all my girls! It was very hot though!

After soccer we enjoyed some cold drinks!

Bunny! one of the girls, Nafsiah, has two pet rabbits - not unlike the one my roommate Kaitlin had in our place, Vanilla Ice! So cute!
This is called an apple mango...as it is a mango that looks like an apple.
Bela and Nafsiah with the bananas!
Me, my girls and my plant - kimpul!

Finally, Jade and I had some fun with bubbles!

Life is very simple here, very slow paced, and lots of time spent with children and women...which I find very relaxing! It is a wonderful change of pace from Canada and change of scenery! My only complaint is the mosquitoes...which endlessly harass me!

Hope everyone is doing well, please send me updates:)
